About Me

Hi, my name is Lenore Underwood. I’ve gone by a lot of different names, sis, petty officer, student, ma’am, daughter and yes even “#$%@%”>#$%@%^” in my lifetime. I am cousin to one of the greatest vocalist this state has produced in recent times and I am glad she hasn’t wondered far from the country. I am glad this is her temporary home.

My life has been somewhat exciting and somewhat boring. I suppose most peoples are. So I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I was doing technical support for the local cable company, but now I am between jobs. I have worked in the bridal photography industry and the fast food industry, spent over a decade in the US Navy doing aviation electronics support, was 1 of 2 people in the Higley Arizona school district IT department that managed and setup a sprawling school district computer network using cutting edge Cisco VOIP phones and the then new Windows 2000 Server and Desktop OS. I have been a computer club newsletter author, a 8/16/32 bit computer programmer using various languages, a published poet in jr high school and a published photographer in high school.

In the late 80s I joined the US Navy and left Oklahoma. I spent time in Key West and Jacksonville Florida, Newport News Virgina and was stationed overseas in Sicily for two years. Wonderful experience. Got to see the Sistine Chapel and the ruins of ancient Rome. Came home to the US and got caught up in the last years of the .com craze. Had the somewhat unique experience of being told on the evening of one New Year’s Eve not to come in to work since my company had just filed for bankruptcy. Well….. that was my Happy New Year that year. I survived that, and finally came back to Oklahoma to stay. I went on to rediscover my Atari roots and in the intervening years have decided to try and keep some of the old school hardware mods alive for the aging 8bit computer platform.

That lead to the creation of the parent website Bitsofthepast.com. There I offer reimaged versions of older hardware, sometimes with a little update, sometimes not. I also offer new hardware that fits a niche or need. This child site mainly deals with the reimaged 1088XEL, a complete redesign of the Atari 8bit computer line by Mytekcontrols. Hopefully I can add and enhance. Time will tell.

There is a thriving world wide community that continues to tinker, play and program the Atari 8bit computers. You can find me on AtariAge.com with the username Dropcheck. Come join us.

The bits of our past are the seeds of our future.
